Background

Uploading a document to Moodle for assessment is an essential skill that you will need to harness.
You should also note that your teachers are highly likely to be grading your work on a Windows PC.  It is your responsibility to ensure that the file you submit is able to accessed by your teacher.  If you have authored your file using Pages or Keynote, it is very important that you first export the document to a Windows friendly format, such as a Word document format or PDF.

Step-by-step guide

To submit a file to Moodle from your Mac:

  1. To upload a document to a Moodle assignment from your laptop:

    1. Prepare to upload your file by locating the document on your laptop using Finder.
    2. Open your preferred web browser.  It is helpful to have the browser set to 'not maximised' so you can see both the browser AND the Finder window at the same time.  This will help you drag and drop your file between windows easily. .
    3. Open Safari and login to Moodle.
    4. Browse to the course you are preparing the assignment for.
    5. Locate the assignment on the course page.  Make sure you are opening the correct assignment if more than one is visible.
    6. In the assignment screen click Add submission.
    7. To submit your file to the assignment:
      • Drag and drop your assignment from your files area of your laptop to the dotty File submissions box OR
      • Use the File select tool to locate and select your document.
      • Note that sometimes assignments may be setup to allow you upload more than one file.

    8. Once your assignment file is visible in the submissions box, click the Save changes button.
    9. Your file should now be visible in the File submissions area in the assignment screen.

Info

As you create Windows-compatible versions of your assignments to submit, be very careful not to misplace your original file. If you teacher requires you to redraft or resubmit a task, you will need to be able to access the original file.
