This article is only applicable to staff and students at Flinders Christian Community College
Why does my password expire?
- Password expiry periods are a standard part of organizational security. Older passwords are more likely to be known by other people, especially in a school setting when people are entering passwords surrounded by keen eyed and not always benevolent students.
- Passwords that are changed regularly greatly reduce our risk of having our network security compromised by hacking attempts or by a person using someone else’s login.
How do I know that it is going to expire?
- For 5 days prior to your password expiring you will receive windows notifications requesting you to change it when you log on.
- In addition, you will receive a Moodle message and an email 10 school days prior to expiry. If you don't change your password, you will receive additional messages at 5, 3, 2 and 1 school days prior to expiry.
What happens if I don’t change it before it expires?
- If you don’t change your password before the expiry date, then when you next log on to your computer on the school network it will ask you to change your password before you can log on.
- Any program or web site that uses that user name and password will not allow you to log on.
Where do I need to enter my new password? What applications use it?
- While you are on the school network some programs will automatically recognize your credentials. These include Synergetic (desktop), Moodle and Outlook.
- All the FCCC applications that you can access through a web browser will require you to use the new password. If you have your password saved in the web browser you will be prompted to update it for each application the first time you use the new password. If you use several web browsers or access the web applications from several computers you will need to update your password once for each.
- Shortcuts to all web applications that use the network login and password can be found here: launch.flinders.vic.edu.au These include Moodle, Synweb, Alfresco, Webmail, Helpdesk, the Knowledge Base and the Library.
What if I am not at school to change my password?
- An expired password will not prevent you from logging on to a FCCC provided laptop with your current password when you are not at the college.
- You will not be able to use webmail or web applications until you change it.
What if I am using a BYOD device?
- When your password expires you will be unable to connect to the school network.
- If you are able to access the internet on your device you can go to launch.flinders.vic.edu.au and navigate to the password change site to change your password.
- If you are not able to access the internet on your device you can go to the site on anyone else’s device to change your password.
- You will need to update your network settings. If you are able to change the network password easily on your device then that is the simplest method. Otherwise you will need to have your device ‘forget’ the network and reconnect using your new password. Refer to byod.flinders.vic.edu.au for additional network information.
- If you are connected to Flinders email on your device it will prompt you to update your username and password. It will not be able to update your emails or calendar until you have done so.
