Year 7 Laptop Setup Guide

Background

To ensure a smooth start to the school year, please follow this step-by-step guide to set up your laptop at home before your first day. Early setup will help everything run smoothly when you arrive at school.

What You Need

• Your new school laptop, fully charged

• Your home Wi-Fi password

• Your school username and password (emailed to parents mid-November)
  
  

School Email / Username Format

All 2026 Year 7 students’ usernames use the first letter of their first name + your last name + 31 f<lastname>31@fccc.vic.edu.au
Examples (using well-known names):

• tswift31@fccc.vic.edu.au (Taylor Swift)

• hstyles31@fccc.vic.edu.au (Harry Styles)

(This email address works with both Google and Microsoft services)

Step-by-step guide

1. Turn On the Laptop
   Press the power button to start your laptop. Windows will take a few moments to boot up. When your laptop has turned on you will be prompted to answer the following questions:

   1. Is this the right country or region? - Select “Australia” and select “Yes”

   2. Is this the right keyboard layout or input method? – Select “US” or “United States”. Australia uses the same keyboard layout. Do not select “UK”

   3. Do you want to add a second keyboard layout? – Select “Skip”.

2. Connect to Your Home Wi-Fi

   1. When prompted, select your home Wi-Fi network.

   2. Enter your Wi-Fi password.

   3. Click 'Next' to continue.
      Connecting to Wi-Fi is essential so the laptop can download your school’s setup files.

3. Sign In with Your School Account

   1. When Windows asks you to sign in, enter your school email address using the format shown above.

   2. Click 'Next'.

   3. You’ll be redirected to the Flinders login page.

   4. Enter your school password to continue.
      It is normal for every student to be redirected to the school’s authentication page during this process.

4. Let the Laptop Complete Its Setup
   After signing in, your laptop will automatically install the required school applications and apply necessary settings. Once setup is complete, your desktop will appear.
   This process usually takes between 10 and 20 minutes. Please keep your laptop turned on and connected to Wi-Fi throughout the setup.

5. Final Checks

   • Confirm you can browse the internet in the MS Edge browser.

   • Ensure you access your Moodle account via the link at http://launch.flinders.vic.edu.au .

   • Your laptop and charger have you name clearly labelled on them

   • Ensure your laptop is fully charged for each school day.
